1 - Dr. B.K. Misra Named for Dr B.C. Roy Award
Dr. B.K. Misra, a distinguished neurosurgeon has been named for this year's prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy National Award as an “Eminent Medical Person of the Year.” Misra is the Head of Department of Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at Mumbai's P.D. Hinduja Hospital.
Instituted by the Medical Council of India in 1962, Dr. B.C. Roy National Award is the highest medical honour in India. This award is given away by President Ram Nath Kovind on July 1 next year, on the National Doctors Day.
2 - Sarala Puraskar' Award for Poet Satrughna Pandav
Distinguished Odia poet Satrughna Pandav will be honoured with the prestigious 39th 'Sarala Puraskar' for his poetry collection 'Misra Dhrupad'.
The 'Sarala Puraskar' carrying a cash prize of Rs 5,00,000 and a citation – was instituted by eminent Odia industrialist late Dr Bansidhar Panda and late Ila Pnada in 1979. However, this is awarded by the Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT). It will be presented to Pandav on October 26.
3 - Prof. Arul Chinnaiyan Received Indian-American Researcher Award
The US National Cancer Institute has given the "Outstanding Investigator Award" to Professor Arul Chinnaiyan, from the University of Michigan. Besides, $6.5 million will be funded in over seven years to identify cancer biomarkers to improve diagnosis and develop new targeted therapies.
In 2010, Chinnaiyan launched the Michigan Oncology Sequencing (Mi-ONCOSEQ) programme. Over period in time, his lab has analysed the global landscape of a portion of the genome that has not been previously well-explored -- long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs).
4 - Aishwarya Rai, Janhvi Kapoor, & Zoya Akhtar honoured WIFT Awards
Aishwarya Rai, Janhvi Kapoor, & Zoya Akhtar have been honoured at the first Women in Film and Television (WIFT) India Awards in Washington, US on September 8, 2018.
Actress Aishwarya Rai has been presented the inaugural Meryl Streep Award for Excellence. This award has been established to honour the best female talent in Bollywood and Hollywood. Director Zoya Akhtar has been given the Wyler Award for Excellence in Direction. And, Actress Janhvi Kapoor has been given the WIFT Emerald Award.
