News 1 - National Doctors’ Day 2016 observed across India

National Doctors’ Day

The National Doctors’ Day was celebrated across India on the 1st of July to honour the legendary physician, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy who was honoured with the Bharat Ratna on 4 February 1961. The day is celebrated to pay honor to the entire medical profession.

This day provides great opportunities to all to get aware about the roles, importance and responsibilities of the doctors as well as promote medical professionals to come closer and follow the responsibilities of their profession very dedicatedly.

News 2 - The World Population Day 2016 observed across the globe

World Population Day

The 2016 World Population Day was observed across the globe on 11th July with theme ‘Investing in Teenage Girls’ to focus on the empowerment of teenage girls and challenges faced by them.

There are various challenges faced by teenage girls like early marriage, motherhood, forced to leave school etc. yet they are empowered, when they are aware about their rights and are given the proper route to their success path to become the positive change in their communities.

News 3 - World Youth Skills Day 2016 observed globally

World Youth Skills Day

The World Youth Skills Day (WYSD) was observed across the world on 15th July. The theme for year 2016 was Skills Development to Improve Youth Employment. The day is observed to create more awareness and a discussion on training and the development of skills for the youth in order to create a better opportunity for them when it comes to employment.

The United Nations observed this day with a special event facilitated by the UN Envoy on Youth Ahmad Alhendawi. The event was coorganized with the Permanent Missions of Portugal and Sri Lanka to the United Nations, UNESCO and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

News 4 - Nelson Mandela Day 2016 observed

The Nelson Mandela International Day, also known as Mandela Day, is observed on July 18th annually. This day remembers Mandela’s achievements in working towards conflict resolution, democracy, human rights, peace, and reconciliation.

On this day, UN joins a call by the Nelson Mandela Foundation to devote 67 minutes of time to helping others, as a way to mark Nelson Mandela International Day. Mandela Day also celebrates a campaign known as “46664”, in reference to Nelson Mandela’s Robben Island prison number. The campaign was originally launched to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. However, its focus expanded to broader humanitarian work.

News 5 - World Hepatitis Day Observed

World Hepatitis Day

The World Hepatitis Day was observed on the 28th July to raise global awareness of hepatitis and encourage prevention, diagnosis and treatment. The theme for this year's Global Campaign is ‘Elimination’. 2016 is a pivotal year for viral hepatitis. Approximately, 400 million people are infected with Hepatitis B and C around the world.

To elevate the theme of elimination, NOhep, a global elimination movement, will be launched to bring people together and provide a platform for people to speak out, be engaged and take action to ensure global commitments are met and viral hepatitis is eliminated by 2030.

News 6 - International Tiger Day Observed

International Tiger Day

The International Tiger Day is held annually on July 29th to give worldwide attention to the reservation of tigers. It was founded at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in 2010. The goal of Tiger Day is to promote the protection and expansion of the wild tiger habitats and to gain support through awareness for tiger conservation.

The UN has reiterated its call for zero tolerance for wildlife crime as part of its 2016 Wild for Life campaign.

News 7 - International Day of Friendship 2016 observed globally

International Friendship Day

The International Day of Friendship is observed annually on July 30. Tis day promotes the role that friendship plays in promoting peace in many cultures.

To mark this day, the UN encourages Governments, Organizations, and Community Groups to hold Events, Activities and Initiatives that promote Solidarity, Mutual Understanding and Reconciliation. The United Nations International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between People, Countries, Cultures and Individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

News 8 - United Nations World Day against Trafficking in Persons 2016 Observed

The United Nations (UN) promotes World Day Against Trafficking Persons on July 30th every year to end human trafficking and raise awareness worldwide. Human trafficking affects every country in the world. At least 2.5 million people are trapped in modern-day slavery, according to the UN.

All around the world, men, women and children are kidnapped, tricked, blackmailed, or manipulated into slavery, like prostitution, forced labor, or organ removal. One in four victims are children.
