News 1 - Pakistani Singer Adnan Sami becomes an Indian Citizen.

01 Jan − Pakistani Singer Adnan Sami has been given Indian citizenship under Section 6 (I) of the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955 under the category Citizenship by Naturalization. He has been staying in India since 2011. He will have to fill a citizenship form at the Home Ministry’s office in Delhi and pay Rs 13,700 as fee for the process.

News 2 - Arunima Sinha ascended Mount Aconcagua in Argentina.

02 Jan − Arunima Sinha, who had lost her left leg in a train accident in 2011, conquered Mt Aconcagua in Argentina, also known as second Everest. Aconcagua, with a height of 6,960.8 meters, is the highest peak outside Asia. With this, she has set a world record as first female amputee to climb 5 mountains in the world. She has plans to complete the goal of Mission 7 Summits. Arunima with her determination and great attitude had climbed Mount Everest in 2013, immediately two years after she lost her leg in the train accident.

News 3 - Sachin Tendulkar is the brand ambassador for Novo Nordisk's diabetes campaign.

04 Jan − Danish pharmaceutical company, Novo Nordisk has roped in Sachin Tendulkar as the brand ambassador for its disease awareness campaign 'Changing Diabetes' initiated in India. In India 69.2 million people have diabetes and by 2035, it is estimated that 123.5 million people will have diabetes. Novo Nordisk is a leading global insulin maker. It is currently providing free diabetes treatment and education to 4,000 children, who have been suffering from Type-2 diabetes, in India.

News 4 - Indra Nooyi, Most Generous Graduate of Yale School of Management.

12 Jan − The prestigious Yale School of Management will name its deanship in honor of PepsiCo’s CEO, Indra Nooyi as she has gifted an undisclosed amount to the school, where she graduated from in year 1980. The school did not disclose the amount gifted by Nooyi, but said it has made her the Most Generous Graduate of Yale School of Management in terms of lifetime giving to the school. She is also the first woman to endow the deanship at a top business school.

News 5 - Sachin Tendulkar launches railway police safety drive.

14 Jan − Cricketing Legend, Sachin Tendulkar launched two safety and awareness initiatives by the Mumbai Railway Police.

SAMEEP (Safety Alert Messages Exclusively for Passengers) − As part of this initiative, text messages would be sent to passengers about important developments or interruptions, safety advisories, updates about women’s security and accurate information about developments to dismiss any anecdote.

B-SAFE − It is an awareness campaign to educate the people about various precautions they should take for safe commuting.

News 6 - Analjit Singh quits as chairman of Max Financial Services Ltd.

15 Jan − Analjit Singh resigned as the Chairman of Max Financial Services Ltd, but will be the chairman emeritus and a permanent invitee to the boards and committees of all Max Group companies. Singh will also be the Chairman Emeritus and a permanent invitee to the boards and committees of all Max Group companies. After the vertical split of Max India Ltd, the new three listed corporate entities are −

  • Max Financial Services Ltd − will handle the life insurance vertical.

  • Max India Ltd − will manage investments in health and related businesses such as Max Healthcare, Max Bupa and Antara Senior Living.

  • Max Ventures and Industries Ltd − will handle the investment in the manufacturing business, Max Specialty Films.

News 7 - IPS officer Aparna Kumar scaled Mount Vinson Massif.

27 Jan − Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer, Aparna Kumar became India's first civil servant to scale Mount Vinson Massif, the highest peak in the Antarctica. She has now scaled 5 of the 7 summits considered the most challenging for mountains in the world. She is currently posted as the DIG Telecom in Lucknow.
