News 1 - Mehbooba Mufti becomes first woman Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti, took oath as the first women Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) at Raj Bhawan in Jammu. The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by J&K Governor NN Vohra.

Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Nirmal Singh took oath as Deputy Chief Minister. His party increased its strength with eight Cabinet-rank ministers, two more over its share in the Mufti government.

News 2 - Priyadarshini Chatterjee crowned FBB Miss India World 2016

Miss Delhi Priyadarshini Chatterjee was crowned the FBB Femina Miss India World 2016 at the 53rd edition of the Femina Miss India beauty pageant held in Mumbai. Bangalore’s Sushruthi Krishna emerged as the Femina Miss India Supranational 2016 and Lucknow’s Pankhuri Gidwani was crowned the Femina Miss India Grand International 2016.

Priyadarshini will now represent India at the Miss World 2016 pageant.

News 3 - MS Dhoni appointed as Brand Ambassador of LAVA International

Lava International has appointed Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the new brand ambassador. The contract value was not revealed. The move will help strengthen the brand of the company. The company plans to invest Rs. 2,615 crores to raise its annual production capacity to 216 million phone sets.

Lava International earned revenues of $1.2 billion in fiscal 2014-15.

News 4 - Barack Obama appointed MasterCard CEO Banga to key administration post

President Barack Obama appointed MasterCard CEO Ajay Banga as a member of the Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity. He is one of the nine members of the Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity, tasked with working towards internet safety.

Ajay Banga is President and CEO of MasterCard, positions he has held since 2010. Mr. Banga joined MasterCard in 2009 as President and COO. Prior to joining MasterCard, Mr. Banga held various senior management roles with Citigroup from 1996 to 2009, most recently serving as CEO of Citigroup Asia Pacific.

News 5 - Paytm's Vijay Shekhar Sharma appointed as Chairman of IAMAI's Payments Banks Group

19/04/2016. Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma has been appointed as chairman of the newly formed payments banks group of Internet and Mobile Association of India. Vodafone India business head(M-Pesa) Suresh Sethi, will be the vice-chairman of the group.

IAMAI includes global companies such as Google, Facebook and LinkedIn as members. The RBI had granted payment licences in August last year, to companies including Paytm, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone.

News 6 - Volodymyr Groysman appointed as the new Prime Minister of Ukraine

Members of Parliament of Ukraine voted by 257 to 50 to approve the appointment of Volodymyr Groysman as the new prime Minister of the country. Mr Groysman will replace Arseniy Yatsenyuk who stepped down as Prime Minister after his government had faced accusations of corruption and inability to implement reforms.

Mr Groysman was the parliamentary speaker and a close ally of Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko.

News 7 - Mary Kom named as AIBA ambassador for Women’s World Boxing Championship

Mary Kom has been named among one of the eight ambassadors for the upcoming World Championship by the International Boxing Association (AIBA). The World Championship is scheduled from May 19 to 27, 2016 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The other ambassadors for the World Championship are Nicola Adams (Great Britain), Marlen Esparza (US), Adriana Arauja (Kazakhstan), Stanimira Petrova (Bulgaria) and Khadija Mardi (Morocco). The female officials chosen as ambassadors are Kheira Siki Yakoub (Algerian) and Jennifer Huggins (Canada).
