News 1 - Delhi Airport T3 became first Platinum rated green airport terminal building in India
The Terminal 3 of the Delhi International Airport (P) Limited (DIAL) has achieved Platinum rating from Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and became the first Platinum rated green terminal building under Green Existing Building O&M Rating System by IGBC.
This is another significant environmental achievement by IGIA, after being accredited as the first Carbon Neutral airport in Asia Pacific recently by Airports Council International (ACI).
News 2 - Chandigarh International Airports limited (CHIAL) won IBC award
Chandigarh International Airports Limited (CHIAL), a Joint Venture Company of Airports Authority of India and States of Punjab and Haryana, has been conferred with IBC award and Trophy for excellence in built environment in infrastructure projects for “New Integrated Terminal Building of Chandigarh International Airport for the year 2014-15” at 21st Annual Convention Inaugural function held in New Delhi.
The new terminal building at the Chandigarh International Airport has been constructed with an investment of Rs. 939 crores.
News 3 - ‘Second Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav-2016’ held in IGNCA Premises
The “Second Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav (RSM)-2016” was held from 15th to 23rd October, 2016 in the premises of Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA), Janpath, New Delhi. It is organized it with an intent to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Country in all its rich and varied dimensions, viz Handicrafts, Cuisine, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Documentation and Performing Arts-Folk, Tribal, Classical and Contemporary- all in one place.
Following the conclusion of the Delhi-RSM, is the RSM in Varanasi which will be organized in multiple venues from the 18th to the 25th of November-2016.
News 4 - The 4th BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Ministerial Meeting at Jaipur
The 4th BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Ministerial Meeting was convened on 8 October, 2016 at Jaipur to further strengthen the collaboration amongst the BRICS countries in the areas of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI).
In alignment with the theme of India’s Chairmanship - Building, Responsive Inclusive and Collective Solutions, the Jaipur Declaration was unanimously adopted by all the BRICS countries. The member countries resolved to intensify, diversify and institutionalize STI cooperation through the BRICS research & innovation initiative.
News 5 - Historical International Kullu Dussehra festival began
The historical International Kullu Dussehra festival began with Rath Yatra in Kullu town of Himachal Pradesh. The Dussehra festival is observed in the popular Dhalpur maidan or Dussehra ground in the Kullu valley.
The Kullu Dussehra is a renowned International Mega Dussehra festival observed in the month of October in Himachal Pradesh state. Dussehra at Kullu commences on the tenth day of the rising moon, i.e. on 'Vijay Dashmi' day itself and continues for seven days.
News 6 - First BRICS Trade Fair & Exhibition began in Delhi
The first ever trade fair of the BRICS countries got underway in New Delhi on 12th October. The fair has been organised for deepening economic engagement, trade and investment ties among the BRICS nations - Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa, and China. The theme of the trade fair is Building BRICS - Innovation for Collaboration. The three-day trade fair, being held at Pragati Maidan is showcasing about 20 key sectors ranging from aerospace, auto and auto components, green energy, railways, infrastructure, tourism, gems and jewellery and skill development.
News 7 - PM Narendra Modi inaugurated Shaurya Smarak in Bhopal
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated the Shaurya Smarak or Memorial of Valour in Bhopal. The Shourya Smarak is spread over an area of 12.67-acre land and the tales of the bravery of Army are on display at this memorial.
It was developed at an expense of 41 crore rupees includes a 62-foot Shaurya Stambh. It has light and sound facility to narrate stories of bravery of the nation's valiant soldiers, who have laid down their lives fighting enemies on the borders.
News 8 - PM Modi distributed 500 charkhas to women spinners in Ludhiana
Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed 500 traditional wooden charkhas (spinning wheel) to women spinners belonging to the five Khadi local institutions in Ludhiana.
The charkhas have been given by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). The women spinners have been selected from different areas of Punjab. In Tamil Nadu in 1945, freedom fighter K Kamaraj donated 500 traditional charkhas to the local women spinners on the occasion of a spinning mela.

The National Summit on Fortification of Food was recently inaugurated in New Delhi to address interventions in combating micronutrient malnutrition in the country. Food fortification or enrichment is the process of adding micronutrients to food.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has formulated a comprehensive regulation on fortification of foods namely ‘Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Foods) Regulations, 2016’. The two-day Summit was co-hosted by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
News 10 - Kochi becomes the first city to host FIFA U-17 World Cup
Kochi becomes first Indian city to be ratified as one of the venues for hosting the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup. A 23-member highlevel delegation comprising experts from FIFA and Local Organising Committee visited Jawarharlal Nehru International Stadium and prospective training grounds to finalise the venue.
Work on all sites is supposed to be completed by March 2017. There will be 24 teams which will take part in the tournament.
News 11 - Navi Mumbai becomes the second city to host U-17 World Cup after FIFA nod
FIFA has ratified Navi Mumbai as the second venue in the list after Kochi for the Under-17 World Cup to be held in India in 2017. The games will be played in D Y Patil Sports stadium.
Earlier, Kochi became the first Indian city to be officially declared as one of the venues for hosting the U-17 World Cup. There will be 24 teams which will take part in the tournament.

The first global conference to strengthen Arbitration and Enforcement in India was held in New Delhi. The three-day conference was titled - National Initiative on Strengthening Arbitration and Enforcement.
The Conference seeks to provide impetus to commercial arbitration in the country, which is fast gaining pace across the world, for faster and efficient dispute resolution outside the court room. Arbitration, a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), is a technique for the resolution of disputes outside the courts.
News 13 - AMCDRR Film Festival to be organized in New Delhi
A short films competition on the theme of Risk Sensitive Development for Community Resilience will be organised at the Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) 2016 from November 35, 2016 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi by the Government of India.
It will set the direction of implementation and monitoring of Sendai Framework in the region. AMCDRR 2016 will focus on collaboration, consultation and partnership with governments and stakeholders to mainstream DRR in the region's socio-economic development.

A Workshop on “Forest Rights Act, 2006 - its Implementation, benefits to tribal and other traditional forest dwelling communities and its challenges” was held in New Delhi as part of National Tribal Carnival – 2016. The Workshop was attended by approximately 250 delegates including Ministers from the States Members of Parliament, Members of State Legislatures and other dignitaries.
A presentation was made that focused on Community Forest Resource guidelines for protection and management of Forest by the Gram Sabha as also other essential attributes and challenges in implementation of Forest Rights Act.
News 15 - Indian Panorama Selection Feature and Non-Feature Films for the 47th International Film Festival of India, 2016
Indian Panorama 2016 announced its final selection of Feature & Non-Feature films to be screened in Goa at 47th International Film Festival of India, 2016. The Jury has recommended Sanskrit film ISHTI Directed G. Prabha as the Opening Feature Film of Indian Panorama 2016.
The Jury for Feature Films, headed by well known actor and Director, Shri Rajendra Singh Babu, has selected 22 films out of 230 eligible entries. The Non-Feature Films Jury chaired by well-known documentary filmmaker Shri Arvind Sinha has picked 21 films out of 198 eligible entries.
