News 1 - An Era of Darkness: The British Empire in India, book penned by Shashi Tharoor

An Era of Darkness: The British Empire in India, a book penned by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was released by M. Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India.

It describes about the colonizers who exploited India and its natural resources supplemented by “famine, forced migration and brutality”. On the other hand, it states benefits of British rule and colonizer’s interest in tea and cricket.

The book explains how the economic deprivation was one aspect of the colonial rule and more serious was its impact on the minds of the subjugated and on the totality of their existence.

News 2 - Dr Jitendra Singh releases Guideline books on Diabetes management

In observance of the World Diabetes Week that commenced from November 14th, the World Diabetes Day, Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region released two Guideline books on Management of Diabetes.

The book deals with the subject of Diabetes & Tuberculosis so as to have control and prevention of Diabetes in younger age group. The book is published by RSSDI, the largest organization of Diabetologists in Asia. RSSDI has started an exercise to bring out a series of such books and monographs on different aspects of Diabetes.

News 3 - ‘India in a Day’ Documentary by Richie Mehta released on YouTube

Richie Mehta, a Canadian film director of Indian origin showcased his documentary "India in a Day" at the 47th International Film Festival of India and it was released on YouTube.

The documentary supported by Google India, is his fourth project and special for having crowd-sourced all of its footage. His earlier two movies "Amal" and "Siddharth" were shot in Delhi.

Ms. Rosalie Varda, a French Costume designer for film theatre and opera, emphasized on the importance of costume for films.

News 4 - Conflicts of Interest: My Journey through India's Green Movement

Penguin India acquired the book titled Conflicts of Interest: My Journey through India's Green Movement authored by Sunita Narain. The book is Narain’s personal account. The book includes an “environmental manifesto” in which she lays out an outline for the direction India must take, if it is to deal with the exigencies of climate change and environmental degradation.

Sunita Narain is an Indian environmentalist and political activist. She is Director General of the India-based research institute, the Centre for Science and Environment, Director of the Society for Environmental Communications.

Ruskin Bond’s brand new collection of stories titled ‘Death under the Deodars: The Adventures of Miss Ripley-Bean’ was released. The book is published by Penguin India. The book consists of 8 fresh thriller stories set in the 1960s -70s Mussoorie of a bygone era that brings to life a mystery and murder featuring the elderly Miss Ripley-Bean and her friends.

Ruskin Bond is an Indian Author of British descent. He was awarded the Sahitya Academy Award in 1992, Padma Shri in 1999 and Padma Bhushan in 2014 for his immense contribution to the growth of children’s literature in India.
