1 - World Wildlife Day observed on 3rd March

World Wildlife day is observed annually on 3rd March 2018 Wildlife day was based on theme “Big cats: predators under threat". Big cats are among the most widely recognized and admired animals across the globe. However, their populations are declining at a disturbing rate due to loss of habitat and prey. In an effort to reach as wide an audience as possible, big cats here include lion, tiger, leopard, jaguar, cheetah, snow leopard, puma, clouded leopard, etc.

World Wildlife Day reminds us of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime.

2 - World Consumer Rights Day

The World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) is observed every year on 15th March for celebration and solidarity within the international consumer movement. The theme for this year is 'Making digital marketplaces fairer’.

The WCRD is an opportunity to promote the basic rights of all consumers, for demanding that those rights are respected and protected, and for protesting the market abuses and social injustices which undermine them. In India, besides the World Consumer Rights Day, we observe the National Consumer Day on 24th of December every year.

3 - International Day of Happiness

The UN International Day of Happiness is celebrated annually on 20th March. The United Nations has celebrated the International Day of Happiness as a way to recognize the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world.

The theme for International Day of Happiness 2018 is "Share Happiness" - focusing on the importance of relationships, kindness and helping each other. In 2012, the United Nations (UN) declared March 20 to be observed as the International Day of Happiness.

4 - World Sparrow Day

World Sparrow Day

The World Sparrow Day is observed around the globe annually on 20th March. The day aims to raise awareness of the house sparrow and then other common birds to urban environments, and of threats to their populations.

The theme for WORLD SPARROW DAY is I LOVE Sparrows. The theme has been inspired by the hope that more and more people will celebrate the relationship between PEOPLE AND SPARROWS. It is an international initiative by the Nature Forever Society of India in collaboration with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France).

5 - World Water Day observed on 22nd March

The World Water Day is celebrated on March 22 every year. The day highlights the importance of freshwater and promotes sustainable management of freshwater resources.

The theme of 2018 World Water Day was ‘Nature for Water’. It aimed at exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges the world faces in the 21st century. Planting new forests, reconnecting rivers to floodplains, and restoring wetlands will rebalance the water cycle and improve human health and livelihoods. World Water Day is coordinated by UN-Water – the UN’s inter-agency collaboration mechanism for all freshwater related issues - in collaboration with governments and partners.

6 - International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2018 observed

The United Nations’ (UN) International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed every year on March 21 2018 Theme: Promoting tolerance, inclusion, unity and respect for diversity in the context of combating racial discrimination.

It creates awareness among people of racial discrimination’s negative consequences. It also encourages people to remember their obligation and determination to combat racial discrimination. It was on this day in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid pass laws.

7 - World Tuberculosis Day

World Tuberculosis Day

The World Tuberculosis Day is observed annually on March 24. The theme of World TB Day 2018 - “Wanted: Leaders for a TB-free world”. The date marks the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB, which opened the way towards diagnosing and curing this disease.

The day aims to raise public awareness of tuberculosis and the efforts made to prevent and treat this disease. It is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO).

8 - International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade

The International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade is observed annually on 25th March. It honors the lives of those who died as a result of slavery or experienced the horrors of the transatlantic slave trade.

The theme for 2018 is “Remember Slavery: Triumphs and Struggles for Freedom and Equality”. The theme celebrates the gains of people of African descent from slavery to present. It also acknowledges the challenges that have been overcome in the movement towards freedom and equality in all professions.

9 - World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD)

The World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed on March 21 every year. The them for 2018 is #WhatIBringToMyCommunity - how people with Down syndrome can and do make meaningful contributions throughout their lives, whether in schools, workplaces, living in the community, public and political life, culture, media, recreation, leisure and sport.

Down syndrome is a naturally occurring chromosomal arrangement that has always been a part of the human condition, exists in all regions across the globe and commonly results in variable effects on learning styles, physical characteristics or health.

10 - World Theatre Day

World Theatre Day

The World Theatre Day is celebrated annually on 27th March. This day is a celebration for those who can see the value and importance of the art form “theatre”, and acts as a wake-up-call for governments, politicians and institutions which have not yet recognized its value to the people and to the individual and have not yet realized its potential for economic growth.

The International Theatre Institute (ITI) initiated World Theatre Day in 1961.
