News 1 - International Women's Day observed

It is also known as the United Nations (UN) Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. The day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

This day is a mutual initiative of International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF). The aim of the day is to raise awareness about the role played by kidneys in maintaining overall health.

News 4 - Commonwealth Day celebrated in the Westminster Abbey

The Commonwealth Day is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations held on the second Monday in March. The theme for 2017 is "A peace-building Commonwealth".

It is marked by a multi-faith service in Westminster Abbey, normally attended by Queen Elizabeth II as Head of the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is one of the world’s oldest political associations of states. Currently there are 52 member nations in the group.

The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of Forests is observed annually on 21st March to promote the importance of forests and trees in our lives. The day addresses issues such as deforestation. International Day of Forests was observed for the first time on March 21, 2013.

The theme of this year is 'Forests and Energy'. The theme highlights the importance of wood energy in improving people's lives, powering sustainable development and mitigating climate change.

It creates awareness among people of racial discrimination’s negative consequences. It also encourages people to remember their obligation and determination to combat racial discrimination.

The World Water Day is celebrated on March 22 every year. The day highlights the importance of freshwater and promotes sustainable management of freshwater resources.

The theme of 2017 World Water Day is "Why Wastewater". It aims to highlight on wastewater and ways to reduce and reuse as over 80% of all the wastewater from our homes, cities, industry and agriculture flows back to nature polluting the environment and losing valuable nutrients and other recoverable materials.

The United Nations' (UN) World Meteorological Day is observed annually on March 23 to commemorate the establishment of World Meteorological Organization on this day in 1950. The theme for year 2017 is "Understanding Clouds".

The theme highlights the enormous importance of clouds for weather climate and water. Clouds are central to weather observations and forecasts. The World Meteorological Day marks the launch of a new edition of the International Cloud Atlas.

The World Sparrow Day was observed around the globe on 20th March. The day aims to raise awareness of the house sparrow and then other common birds to urban environments, and of threats to their populations.

It is an international initiative by the Nature Forever Society of India in collaboration with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France) and numerous other national and international organizations across the world.

The first World Theatre Day Message was written by Jean Cocteau in 1962. ITI is an International Non-Governmental Organization founded in 1948 by UNESCO and the International Theatre Community.

News 13 - 'Earth Hour' observed on 25th March

Earth Hour

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement observed annually towards the end of March. It is organized by the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). This year it was observed on 25th March 2017 marked the 10th anniversary of Earth Hour.

The event is held to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.
